OBJECTIVE - G.CO.B.8
Explain how the criteria for triangle congruence (ASA, SAS, and SSS) follow from the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motion.
INTERPRETATION OF OBJECTIVE - G.CO.B.8
This objective focuses on the development of the minimal criteria needed to determine congruence between two triangles. It is important to note how the objective tells us to arrive at those criteria; through our definition of congruence in terms of rigid motion. That means we are to create triangles with certain characteristics and then see if one maps onto the other. This investigatory approach is essential to the development of this concept.
Notice that AAS and HL are not mentioned here. I believe that these also need to be investigated and integrated into this objective.
I also believe that if you are teaching Honors Geometry you need to discuss the cases of ASS at this point. Doing so will greatly help them when you work on the ambiguous cases of the Sine Law. |
